It's four months until NEPMo starts and I've already been hyped up and planning since early November. However, it just recently occurred to me that I don't actually *read* epic poetry... which might actually make it difficult to write. So I've resolved to read at least one epic poem a month for the next four months. One will *probably* be the Divine Comedy, the Odyssey or Beowulf. I've read them all before (and I can vaguely recall Beowulf making my brain bleed) but it was rather a long time ago. I'd like any others I read to have been originally written in English as they really loose something in translation (like rhyme and meter). Others that I'm considering include: Spencer, Faerie Queene MacPherson, The Works of Ossian Southey, Thalaba the Destroyer / Curse of Kehama Scott, The Lady of the Lake / The Lord of the Isles Shelley, Queen Mab / The Spirit of Solitude Keats, Endymion Byron, Don Juan Longfellow, The Song of Hiawatha Tennyson, Idylls of the King Bridges, Eros & Psyche Yeats, The Wanderings of Oisin Neihardt, Cycle of the West Martinson, Aniara Can anyone recommend any of the above poems? Are any of them completely horrible and to be avoided at all costs? Finally, is anyone willing to do this with me? I need moral support!
